BMG has launched two substantial research funding lines to strengthen women’s health services research in Germany, targeting patient-centered care, junior research groups, and structural capacity building in this field.
Germany’s Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) has opened a new women’s health research funding programs to improve healthcare for women across the country. The call targets projects on patient-centered care, sex-specific disease patterns, and the impact of social inequality on women’s health in Germany.
Two dedicated funding guidelines are available, each with up to five million euros, supporting both health services research projects and junior research groups at universities and non-university institutions.
Funded projects must start no later than 1 January 2027, with a duration of up to three years (up to five years for junior groups).
Priority topics include care for women with female-specific diseases, sex-specific characteristics of common conditions, endometriosis, menopause care, fertility, pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum care, as well as care for women affected by violence. Research on Long COVID, ME/CFS, classic German Medicines Act (AMG)/ Medical Devices Act (MPG) clinical trials, DiGA effectiveness, nutrition, and workplace health management is excluded from this call.
The project management agency at the German Aerospace Center (DLR-PT) has been commissioned to implement the programme, and detailed calls (“Förderrichtlinien zur Frauengesundheit”) are available on the BMG website for interested applicants.
